Morning Book

MORNING BOOK

Join us at Michigan Park on Monday, June 3, at 10AM!  We will be enjoying fresh air and each other’s company as we discuss The Only Woman in the Room, by Marie Benedict.  The discussion will be led by the team of Margo Reeg, Andrea Bellamy and myself.

Bestselling author Marie Benedict reveals the story of a brilliant woman scientist only remembered for her beauty.  Her beauty almost certainly saved her from the rising Nazi party and led to marriage with an Austrian arms dealer. Underestimated in everything else, she overheard the Third Reich’s plans while at her husband’s side and understood more than anyone would guess. She devised a plan to flee in disguise from their castle, and the whirlwind escape landed her in Hollywood. She became Hedy Lamarr, screen star.  But she kept a secret more shocking than her heritage or her marriage: she was a scientist. And she had an idea that might help the country fight the Nazis and revolutionize modern communication…if anyone would listen to her.

A powerful book based on the incredible true story of the glamour icon and scientist, The Only Woman in the Room is a masterpiece that celebrates the many women in science that history has overlooked.

Michigan Park is on the corner of La Cuarta and Michigan Ave. with parking on Michigan.  Let’s meet near the parking lot.  The park does have tables and benches but I think we will all be more comfortable in folding chairs.  If you do not have one, I have several and can bring one for you.  Please let me know.  Also please bring your own beverage and/or snacks.  Unfortunately, I will not be able to provide a Zoom link this month.

Our last meeting for the year is on Monday, July 22.  We will be discussing Lady Tan’s Circle of Women, by Lisa See.  I will send out more information closer to the date.

Lastly, please remember to send me suggestions for books to read and discuss next year by MAY 15.  I have gotten a few but certainly could use some more.   I need: AUTHOR, TITLE, NUMBER OF PAGES, & BRIEF DESCRIPTION.

See you on June 3!
